Happy Friday! Today we did a review of our the -og word family that we have been working on this week. We used our pocket chart to build words, and then did a quick assessment paper. We have been keeping up with our popcorn word practice. We have been doing a great job with our sentences, but we don't want to forget about our sight word flashcards to help build fluency and speed! We played a fun memory game with our popcorn words today. We have a lot of good memories in here! In math we reviewed for our math test next week. Our test will cover what we have been doing with composing and decomposing numbers 11-19. Everyone really has the hang of this concept! Thank you for all of your Easter egg and candy donations! The Easter Bunny will have a great time stuffing all of those eggs for our egg hunt next week. Remember that our spring break starts next week, so no school on Thursday or Friday. Have a great weekend!

Today we learned to read a new decodable book, Ten Men. Please look for this book to come home tomorrow for practice at home over the weekend. We only have nine more decodable books to go for the year! We talked more about spring weather today, and completed a spring sentence scramble. Brennen Bear came to our classroom and taught us a lesson on full, empty, almost full, and almost empty. Those concepts were tricky, but we did a great job with two step directions and comprehension questions from the story. Tomorrow we will be reviewing for our Chapter 7 math test on composing and decomposing numbers to 20. In the afternoon we worked in our reading and math centers and then made a spring word book for reading fluency practice.
Tomorrow is the last day to send in eggs and candy for our Easter Egg hunt! Please send your items in tomorrow if you have not done so. Today we did a review of all of our popcorn words. Don't forget to keep practicing those sight words! They will help build an important foundation for first grade. We made an excellent word list for the letter V. Yesterday we worked on putting words into ABC order, and today we did it on our own with some spring words. In math we decomposed numbers 16-19. We are finished with Chapter 7, and will review for our test on Friday! After Easter break we will be starting a new math book and learn about measurement! In the afternoon we worked in our centers and then made a spring bird craft. Please practice your popcorn word sentences for Friday's test!
Today we learned to read a new decodable book called Gus. Ask your child who Gus was, and what he did in the story. We will continue practicing this book so we can take it home on Friday! We also reviewed a little on how to put words into ABC order. We also did some review on syllables. We played a clapping game with picture cards and did an interactive activity on the Promethean board to find out how many syllables different words have. In math we learned to make numbers 16-19, and tomorrow we will work on decomposing these numbers. In the afternoon we worked in new reading and math centers. In our centers we are working on skip counting, addition, word families, and popcorn words. After we finished with our centers we talked about spring weather and how it can be different every day. We discussed the different types of weather that can happen in spring, and then conducted a mini interview with our friends to see what kinds of weather they liked. When we were done gathering our data, we made a graph of our results.
If you have not returned or purchased spring pictures, please do so soon! Students will not be able to attend the field trip if pictures are not returned or paid for. The last day to send in eggs or candy for our Easter egg hunt will be this Friday. Thank you so much for your donations. Without them, the "Easter Bunny" would be unable to provide this fun activity! This is letter V week in kindergarten, so start thinking of some good v words to add to our word list tomorrow. We have also started practicing our second set of sight word sentences. You'll find these sentences in home folders today, so start practicing for our quiz on Friday. We will be working with the -og word family this week. Today we reviewed our decodable reading book from yesterday, and practiced a new one! We learned to read Hug a Bug, and completed a write, trace, draw activity to go along with it. These two decodable books were sent home today instead of tomorrow, because I will be out tomorrow. Please keep these books to practice over the weekend. They are great fluency and sight word practice! Brennen Bear came today to teach us a language lesson about the meaning of the word, other. We did a listening activity, then completed a following directions page about St. Patrick's Day. In the afternoon we worked in reading and math centers, and made patterns with umbrellas. Remember that our popcorn word sentence quiz will be tomorrow, so practice reading those sentences!
Today we learned to read a new decodable book, Run, Ron. Our books are getting a bit harder with less popcorn words, and more words to sound out. We are doing a great job using sounds, blending, and picture clues. We reviewed some of our past popcorn words today by completing a popcorn word shape puzzle. We had to look at each word and decide what order tall, small, and low letters were in each word, then write it into the correct sent of empty boxes. This was great review practice! In math we decomposed numbers 11-15 using ten frames and objects. In the afternoon we continued with our reading and math centers, then completed a St. Patrick's Day skip counting puzzle. Please remember to purchase or send back spring pictures as soon as possible! Thank you for donating a dollar to help our Caps for Character fund. We wore some very interesting hats today!
Happy St. Patrick's Day! We had a great day today, and it was great to see so many friends wearing green! Today we talked about what we would do if we found a pot of gold. Some of us would keep it, others would give it away, and some of us would buy some really cool things! We used this discussion as a prewriting activity, and then turned this into a writing project. In math we moved on to composing numbers 11-15. We are back to using ten frames to help us add numbers, and we really seem to be getting the hang of it! Please look for math homework tonight to practice this skills. In the afternoon we worked on reading and math centers and then completed the art portion of our St. Patrick's Day writing. Remember to keep practicing those sight word sentences for our test on Friday!

We were also introduced to our three sight word sentences for the week. We have finished and tested over all five of the popcorn word list, and will now be using our sight word skills to read sentences with popcorn words, color words, and CVC words.
