Today was a huge success! All of our hard work for the past couple of months paid off, and we put on a wonderful May Festival show! Thank you so much to Mrs. Brush our music teacher, and all of our special's teachers who make this event possible. They put in so much hard work teaching songs and dances, and it shows! If you were able to join us, thank you so much for coming, and we hope you enjoyed our show! After our May Festival show we had a great time at the carnival! A big shout out to our amazing PTC for putting on such a wonderful treat for our students and families. We enjoyed rides, popcorn, snowcones, and bounce houses! It was a great day at school, and we are looking forward to finishing the week on a positive note! Tomorrow we will have our last good news party of the year (weather permitting), and on Thursday we will visit the book fair.
Happy Friday! We only have one more week to go! We have been working so hard on our dances and songs for the May Festival on Tuesday. Every day for specials classes we have been rehearsing, and today we went outside for rehearsal to get used to the new area for our big day. We did some talking today about what kids of things we might learn when we are first graders. We think we might learn to read big words and chapter books, do science experiments, and even count to one trillion! We are very excited about being first graders soon. We did some writing about what we thought we might learn in first grade, and in math we did a quick progress check on our geometry concepts and then did some problem solving.
Don't forget that all fees must be paid by Monday in order to attend the carnival on Tuesday afternoon! Happy Tuesday! Today we set our butterflies free! We went to our outdoor learning garden to give them a nice place to live. All five of our friends happily flew away, and some of them even landed on us before they said goodbye! It was a very cool experience to get to see them grow and change. We have moved on to chapter 10 in our math books, which talks about position. This is a short chapter, but it will probably be the last one we get to this year. At the end of the year your child will bring home his/her math book for summer practice. In the afternoon we made a kindergarten memory book that we filled with our favorite activities from recess, lunch, and specials classes. Starting tomorrow we will be practicing for our May Festival program. Please make sure to send your child in tennis shoes, as they will be outside to dance.
Welcome back for another week! We only have nine more school days in kindergarten! It is hard to believe that the year is coming to an end. We are trying to keep our schedule as normal as possible this week, and today we read an emergent reading book called, The Busy Pond. We learned to read this book and then completed a comprehension activity to recall what the story was about. We also took our Chapter 9 math test today over sorting and classifying objects. We all did a great job! We will continue to work in our math book this week on Chapter 10, which talks about position. Our butterflies are looking great! They have stayed healthy and active over the weekend, and hopefully the weather will be good tomorrow so we can release them into the wild. Please look for information regarding Mayfest and Carnival to come home this week. If you'd like to order a hot dog lunch with your child on that day, please send back the form and money by this Friday (15th).
We are excited to announce that we have 5 healthy adult butterflies in our classroom! We are feeding them sugar water and watermelon slices to mimic the nectar that they would be eating in the wild. Today we talked about our trip to the farm tomorrow. We made a list of some animals that we might see there, and then wrote about the animal we hoped to see most. WE WILL BE GOING ON OUR FIELD TRIP TOMORROW! We have made the decision with Mr. Rakers to take the chance as the rain looks to be scattered. Tomorrow for the trip please remember:
Today we learned to read a book about a dairy farm to help us get ready for our upcoming field trip. We also reviewed for our math test, which will be tomorrow or Friday. We have really done a wonderful job at sorting and classifying objects! You can practice this skill at home by asking your child to sort his or her toys, food, or clothing. Try sorting things by size, shape, color, or any other attribute you can think of. We added two more friends to our classroom today. Two of our butterfly friends have emerged from their chrysalis so far! We are patiently waiting for the other three to make their arrival. We have sugar water waiting for them in case they're hungry! We will be releasing these friends next week!
ALL FEES (LUNCH, LIBRARY, ESP, PICTURES, ETC.) MUST BE PAID BY 4PM TODAY TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE FIELD TRIP! We will be making the call for a field trip rain date tomorrow, so stay tuned! Welcome back! It's hard to believe that we only have three weeks left of kindergarten! These last few weeks will be very busy with end of the year projects, activities, parties, and field trips. We are trying to stay on schedule as best we can to stick to our routine. Today in math we continued to find new ways to sort and classify objects. For today's lesson we focused on sorting by shape. You will find homework in folders tonight for extra practice. For a very special treat today we got to see the middle school play performed in the gym. They did a great job, and everyone enjoyed the show! In the afternoon we shared some of our timeline projects. These were so great! We really enjoyed sharing our pictures with our friends and sharing about our lives. If you did not send in your child's timeline project, please send it in tomorrow. We would love to share!
The weather is looking like it may not cooperate with us for our Friday field trip. We may have to reschedule this trip for next week, if the weather does not look good. We will make you aware of any changes! We have finished letter Z week! There are only three more weeks of kindergarten, and we have a lot of fun activities planned to fill our day! Today we did a review of the word family words in the -ug family. We also reviewed what we have been working on so far in math with sorting and classifying. We are really doing a great job with that, and finding unique ways of sorting all kinds of objects. Today was a big day for our butterfly friends. We carefully moved our chrysalids into their butterfly habitat, so that when our adult butterflies emerge, they will be in a safe place. We tried to make them feel at home by placing branches inside the habitat for them to use as a perch. Hopefully our friends will emerge next week! In the afternoon we continued to talk about the parts of a plant and how plants grow. We made a flower diagram and labeled all of the parts of the plant we learned.
Next Friday is our field trip! If you received a notice in your child's folder about fees due (lunch, library, ESP, spring pictures, etc.) please remember to pay by Wednesday May 6! If fees go unpaid, your child will not be able to attend the field trip. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions about this, please call our school office. If the weather does not cooperate on Friday for our field trip, we will be rescheduling for the following week, and will let you know when that will be! |
