Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring break! We are back to work with letter U week. We began to make a list of words that begin with the letter U, and we found that to be a little tricky! We came up with some really good ones, but we want to fill our chart by the end of the week, so come up with some ideas and we'll add them to the list. This week we will be working on popcorn word list 5, which is the trickiest list of all! There are a lot of W words, so make sure to spend time each night practicing. We played Roll a Popcorn word today with some of these tricky words for extra practice. We did some math review with ten frames with numbers 11-20 and how to add more to make bigger numbers. In the afternoon we worked in our center groups practicing popcorn words, patterns, number sequencing, and writing. We also made an umbrella color book for the letter U. Don't forget to practice list 5 words tonight!

Today we worked on our CVC spelling. We looked at pictures of bunnies that had a picture on their bellies. We had to find the matching picture on our paper and spell each word. We did a great job! Using our vowel charts has been so helpful for figuring out the middle sounds of words. In math we did a quantity discrimination assessment where we had to look at two parts of a cracked egg with numbers on them. We had to compare the two, and color the number that was bigger. In the afternoon we worked in reading and math centers then made an Easter card for our families. Our egg hunt will be tomorrow. If you'd like to send in a basket for your child to collect eggs, then please send one in tomorrow. If you don't want to send in a basket, then we will make a bag tomorrow. Thank you for your egg and candy donations!
Hello families! Welcome back for our short week before our Spring break! There will not be a word list or popcorn word test this week, due to the short week, so we are going to be reviewing ALL of our popcorn words in class. I can tell such a big difference in the number of words we are recognizing after spending more time on the short, ten word lists. It has really helped our fluency with reading these words! We made a great list of Easter words to help get us ready for the upcoming holiday. We also did some story sequencing and an addition quiz. In the afternoon we worked in our centers, and practiced hands-on reading and math skills. For a fun art project we made a colorful Easter basket craft. Thank you for all of the egg and candy donations. The Easter Bunny really appreciated it, and is excited for our egg hunt on Wednesday. You are welcomed to send in a special basket or bag for your child to collect his/her eggs.
Happy Friday! Today we had some fun with rhyming word family words and took our list 4 sight word test. There will not be a sight word test next week, since we will only be here for three days, but we will pick up with our last list when we get back from spring break! We added a new page to our interactive notebooks for the letter T and got to play the fun paper clip game to graph capital and lowercase letters. We had a Brennen Bear lesson today about the meaning of the word other. We read a story where Brennen and Bret were getting ready for the parade. Ask your child what Bret had to do to be in the parade and what ask what kinds of silly things he did instead. We did a problem solving activity to reinforce the concepts that we learned with this lesson. In the afternoon we started working in new reading and math centers where we worked on sight words, letters, and patterning skills. For the rest of the afternoon we worked on a St. Patrick's Day puzzle we had to put together by counting by 10s. Jump Rope 4 Heart information went home today in folders. Have a good weekend!
Happy St. Patrick's Day! There was a lot of green in our classroom today! We made some fun leprechaun hats to help celebrate the day and also read some books about St. Patrick's Day. We did a fun writing project where we thought of what we would do if we found a pot of gold. We came up with some very cool ideas! We put our writing on a colorful rainbow with a pot of gold for a fun art project. In the afternoon we went to a fantastic assembly to help us get ready for Jump Rope for Heart! Last year we raised $12,050, and we hope to beat that this year. You'll receive some information about how to make donations and earn great prizes while helping others' hearts tomorrow. Don't forget that tomorrow we will have our list 4 sight word quiz. Please send in your eggs or candy for our egg hunt next week if you haven't already. Thank you!
Today we learned to read a new decodable book, Sad Dot. We've started to extend these books with a sentence structure and comprehension page to go along with them. It helped us with our sentence writing, putting words in the right order, and remembering events from the story. In math we have started to compose and decompose numbers 11-15, and we are really doing well with it! We have already done this before with numbers 1-10, so these larger numbers are no problem! Today we went to the computer lab for some Planet Turtle time and yesterday we made some great St. Patrick's Day decorations for our classroom. Please remember to send in your plastic eggs OR candy for our egg hunt next Wednesday. The Easter Bunny really appreciated it!
We are excited St. Patrick's Day is this week! We will be doing fun St. Patrick's day projects all week and today we made some lucky torn paper shamrocks to help get our classroom in the St. Patrick's Day spirit. We also did some sentence building with a St. Pat's theme. This is letter T week, and we did a picture sorting activity in our interactive notebooks. We have also started a new chapter in math that has us back exploring ten frames! We had a great math review today on ten frames and numbers 11-20. This chapter will have us composing and decomposing these numbers. We introduced our list 4 words today, and some of them are a little tricky, so be sure to practice every night at home! Please send in your egg hunt supplies (either 24 eggs or a small bag of candy) by Friday. We will have our Easter egg hunt on Wednesday 23rd.
We've made it to the end of letter S week, and we had so much fun learning about spiders! Some of us even checked out spider books from the library today to learn more at home. We had fun using a survey today to see who was still afraid of spiders after learning about them. We did a language review of all of the Brennen Bear concepts that we've talked about so far like narrow, wide, small, and medium to name a few. Next week we'll be starting to compose and decompose numbers 11-20 before moving on to geometry. In the afternoon we got to share our awesome family rainbow projects! They are so colorful and creative. They'll look great outside our classroom door. Check out our finished spider writing projects below. They were so fun to make!
Today we were so excited to finish up our spider writing. We've been working all week to do research and organize our information to get ready to write. We wrote our paragraphs and are mounting them on a special piece of paper with spider hand prints that we made. Stay tuned tomorrow for some pictures. They turned out so cute! Since we finished up with our chapter test in math yesterday, we did some more subtraction practice using cubes to help us solve problems on a color by number page. In the afternoon we made some fun spiders to hang from our ceiling. We've had several compliments on them so far! Remember rainbows are due tomorrow and our list 3 popcorn word quiz will be tomorrow too!
Today we continued with your spider research and prewriting activities. The books and videos we've been using to learn about spiders have been so interesting! They helped us fill up our research chart, and today we used all of our research to create our writing graphic organizer. This chart will help us with our three sentence paragraph we'll write tomorrow. In math we took our chapter 6 test over subtraction, and everyone did a great job! Next week we'll start composing and decomposing numbers 11-20. In the afternoon we ran into a snag with the computer lab time, so instead we took turns on our classroom Chromebooks and played reading and math games. Don't forget that our rainbow projects are due on Friday.
