We have been busy in our classroom getting ready for the holidays! We have continued with our work on the letter J, and today we sorted some pictures that make the j sound. We have also been working on a new predecodable book, What Can We Do? This book helps with the three new words we've learned this week: what, can, and you. Every morning we read this book together, and we can't wait to take it home and read it to our families! The past couple of days we have made some hand print ornaments for our Christmas trees, and gingerbread cards for our families. In math we have put numbers in order from 1-20, and have been working on different types of patterning. Tomorrow we will have a very special day! On Thursday 18th it's our POLAR EXPRESS PAJAMA PARTY! That's right! Tomorrow please come to school in your pajamas (school appropriate please). Please wear your regular shoes to school, but you can bring slippers to wear around the classroom. We will be watching the Polar Express and having a very special treat.
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a nice weekend, and enjoyed the great weather! This is letter J week in kindergarten. Today we worked on making our lowercase Js properly. We had trouble remembering that the lowercase J looks like a fish hook in the water. We took turns at the Promethean board making our most perfect lowercase j. We completed our third grading period fine motor assessment. We wrote our first names, capital and lowercase letters, and numbers in our very best handwriting. We also worked on AABB patterns. In math we did a number writing assessment to 20, and everyone did a great job! In the afternoons we are continuing to work in our reading and math centers, and today we made a Christmas countdown chain to help us count down the days before Christmas.
Today we worked on putting words in the right order to make a sentence. We used popcorn word and easy words that we can sound out to make sentences. We mixed them up and read how silly they sounded! Then we put them back in the right order, remembering that capital letters are at the beginning, and punctuation marks are at the end. In math we took our Chapter 3 test over numbers 11-20 and beyond. In art class we made cute melted snowman cards that went home today. Thank you for returning the decorated gingerbread boys and girls! We took time today to share them with the class. They were very creative! I hope you enjoyed making them for our holiday family project. In the afternoon we made a Rudolph craft to decorate our classroom. We helped our friends trace their hands and feet to make his head and antlers. They turned out very cute!
Hello Families! I hope everyone had a great weekend. We are back at school for letter I week! We have been working on our handwriting for the letter I, as well as talking about the sound that it makes in words. We have introduced a few new popcorn words this week: must, my, are, in, and on. These words will help us with two new predecodable books that we will read this week. Today we read, The Pot, which uses the words are and in. We practiced reading these words, and then buttered all of the popcorn words on the pages. Yesterday we took a letter dictation quiz, where we had to write letters that were told to us. Everyone did a great job! The past two days we have reviewed for our math test tomorrow. There is a practice math test in home folders for homework tonight!. Yesterday we completed our winter benchmark testing with the teachers in the reading lab. Those scores will be sent home when they are available. In the afternoon we made and decorated stockings for our classroom. This Friday will be our Good News party. We are working hard to keep our excitement under control, so that we can participate in the fun!
Happy Friday everyone! Today we had an exciting day in kindergarten! We started our day by working with partners to read out newest predecodable book. We have worked hard to learn to read this book, so be sure to look for it in home folders tonight. Practice reading this book to family, and return it next week! We also completed a beginning sound assessment for the letter H. Mrs. Brush and our Glee Club put on a great Christmas performance for us today! We listened to them sing some great Christmas songs, and they danced for us too! In the afternoon we had some very special Belleville East high school students come to teach us a character education lesson. We worked with them to read a story and make a special craft. It was a fun day! Don't forget that Gingerbread House Night is tonight from 6-8! Have a great weekend!
We have been busy that past couple of days in our classroom! We have learned six new popcorn words this week! They are: who, has, do, got, look, and me. We have been using flashcards to practice all of these words every morning. We have also been doing so well reading our new predecodable book, Who Has a Hat? In the mornings we have started to practice reading silly words like, fip and mig, to practice blending sounds together into words. So far, we have been doing a great job! Don't forget to practice these words from the monthly silly word list that went home. We have been doing lots of rhyming in our classroom too! Yesterday we used rhyming skills to complete a rhyme-away story. We listened to rhyming clues to guess which part of the picture to erase. Today we played roll-a-popcorn word game to help reinforce the six new words that we have learned this week. In math we have been counting! Yesterday we counted to 100 and today we skip counted by 10s to 100. We have almost finished with our math and reading centers for this week, and have been reading books about hibernating animals. Yesterday we made a hibernating bear art project, and today made a hen for the letter of the week, H.
Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break! We came back to school ready to learn. After a quick review of our classroom expectations, we started the day with our new letter of the week, H. We practiced our handwriting, and tomorrow will be making a word list for the letter H. Can you think of some words that start with H for our list? We introduced three new popcorn words today: who, has, and do. These words helped us read our new predecodable book, Who Has a Hat? This new book will go home on Friday, so we will spend all week learning to read it! In math we talked about numbers to 50. We used charts and crayons to count and color numbers 1-50. This was a breeze for us, because every morning we count to 100! In the afternoon we worked in reading and math centers, We also started to learn about hibernation for the letter of the week. We watched a video about hibernation and talked about some animals that hibernate. We will be doing hibernation research this week to learn more.
